Will the cat - badly beaten

When we first heard about poor Will, we didn't know if he was either beaten or hit by a car. He was taken to a shelter in Greenville, SC by a good Samaritan. He was sitting there in pain until our friend at the shelter contacted a rescue about helping him. She can not take him as they have just taken in a lot of cats, but wanted the poor cat to get to the vet asap so she asked if we could help with the vet costs.

Will is at the vet and the vet thinks he was beaten, not hit by a car.

Now the hard part---find someone who wants to adopt him. The vet is worried about him finding a home and not about her fee. She said he is a super affectionate cat.

Theshelter volunteer said she is the sweetest cat, reminds her of HuggyMomma. Her collar is covered in rhinestones and jingle bells. Thissmall fact made me cry. How do you buy your cat such a pretty collar,shower her with affection and then dump her at one of the highest killshelters for cats in GA?? DaLinda is still at Henry Co Animal Care and Control but she needs toget out today. She has a hold on her until tomorrow but no one can pickher up tomorrow so today it is.

We have someone ready to go pickher up, get her to boarding for her quarantine and to the vet for hertests, spay and shots. However Kat 5 never pulls a cat or dog with outfunds to pay their bills. So before she can get out of dodge DaLindaneeds a little spending money to pay her bills

We received this plea today from a shelter volunteer.

There is a male 5-6 week old black lab mixed pup at Dekalb. His belly is distended from worms and he has the start of KC, the pup also has a lump on one side above his ribs that feels like some type of soft tissue injury. The poor little thing is not really eating his food, just licking the gel off the canned food. He is being held in the intake bay and has not been exposed to the general population.
I am heartbroken that I could not take him today while getting pictures, I only pray that he makes it through the night. If anyone has room in their heart and home for this sweet baby, please contact the adoption/rescue coordinator immediately!

This pup desperately needs our help! The volunteer has offered to help sponsor this puppy to give him a second chance by matching the first $50 in donations, but we will still need to raise funds before we can commit to pulling a special needs pet.

Help Needed for Abandoned Dog

We were called by someone who mistakenly thought we were a shelter. He had found a pitbull puppy and followed it to see that it was living under a house. He says that drug dealers abandoned the house and left the dog. The neighbor lives in an apartment and is unable to keep the dog, and cannot afford even temporary care for her. We have begged him to foster her for a day or two until we can do something. We need to get him a crate, and we need to raise money for food, vet treatment (shots, deworming, spay surgery) while we try to find someone who is not too full to take one more pittie. The pup is very sweet, and pretty as you can see.

Please help us save her!!

FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA:

KAT 5 has spoken with the Fargo Humane Society. According to them the situation is under control today but they may change tomorrow as the river continues to rise. There is an emergency animal shelter set up at the Fargo Humane Society. Local businesses, like dog obedience schools, are stepping up to help to shelter animals of potential evacuees. There are currently mandatory evacuations across the river from Fargo in Moorhead, ND. There are not yet mandatory evacuations in Fargo with the exception of a nursing home and hospital. There maybe mandatory evacuations in Fargo later.

There has been one animal rescue call yesterday with horses in flood waters. The horses were rescued and are now safe. The Humane Society has our number and will call us if things change and we are needed in any capacity. 800 more National Guardsman have arrived in the area to man the levies. Below is the information on emergency animal shelter:

In the meantime, if you think you may need to use the emergency animal shelter for your animals, please prepare an emergency care kit for your pets. -

current vaccination records stored in waterproof containers.
Make sure your pet has identification tags
Food and water – at least three day supply, in an airtight container
Current photos and description of your pets
Pet carrier
sturdy leashes

Bismarck, NORTH DAKOTA: KAT 5 spoke with the Bismarck Humane Society today. There is flooding in Bismarck due to the snow and ice melting. There are mandatory evacuations. The National Guard has rescued 3 animals. Most residents are evacuating with their pets. The Bismarck Humane Society and Animal Control is housing animals dropped off by evacuating residents. Local motels are encouraging residents to bring their pets to non-pet friendly motels as well. There is a local high school where residents may bring their pets.

Hopefully it will be a non-issue and the "dynamiting" of ice will divert worse flooding. This is happening right now. The H.S. is fine. They have our number if things change and either rescue or procurement of supplies is needed.

GA Bill to Ban Gas Chamber Shelters

Georgia House Representative Tom Knox introduced "Grace's Bill" on Thursday and it was assigned "HB 606" (House Bill 606). This is our bill to outlaw the 15 remaining gas chambers in Georgia shelters.

We expect Senator Henson to drop a "companion" bill in the State Senate next week. That bill will be assigned an "SB" number.

Time is wasting... we have to act FAST! The so-called "crossover" date is March 12th. If HB 606 doesn't make it out of the House Committee on Agriculture (the committee that decides whether the bill moves to the full House for a vote) and pass a vote of the full House, it will die. The bill has to crossover to the Senate by the 12th!

So start today WRITING TO YOUR STATE SENATOR AND YOUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE. ...and asking your friends, family members and co-workers to do the same.

Please also ask your veterinarian to write to his/her state senator and house representative. ...and to the members of the House Committee on Agriculture, of which our primary opponent, Dr. Gene Maddox, a veterinarian, is a member and officer. If many of our state lawmakers hear from their veterinarian constituents in favor of this bill, they will not defer to Dr. Gene Maddox's opinion that gas chambers are ok. They are not ok! Dogs and cats suffer and struggle for up to 45 minutes in these torture chambers.

There are lots of great cats at DeKalb Animal Services who are in need of
adoption or rescue. I am attaching photos of some of them to this email. We have
two sets of moms and kittens, a black and white mom with 4 kittens and a Siamese
mom with 3 kittens. However two other babies came in and they are now
with the Siamese mom, so now she has a total of 5. We also have
another Siamese who is very shy. She is not aggressive at all, just very scared
being here at the shelter. I am also attaching a photo of a very pretty torti.

Please take a minute and crosspost for this beautiful pup, thank you.

If you are looking for a new best friend, please keep this shelter in mind. Also, if there is anyone local who would be willing to go in and take pictures of the animals and put them on Petfinder, contact the shelter. Doing so could be a tremendous aid in helping save a lot of innocent lives.

Till Tuesday is as long as this beautiful German Shepherd has to live. There is a shelter near us that has an extremely high kill rate. If an animal is picked up by them it is basically a death sentence.

I know there are a few local rescue groups that help get some of these animals foster homes, or placement in a no kill shelter before it’s too late, the problem is it’s only a very small percentage.

I just received a message from Dogster member Wanda, there is a beautiful German Shepherd that has till Tuesday, then his time is up. If anyone in the Cartersville, GA area is looking for a beautiful GSD or if there are any rescue groups please act quickly.

While I can’t post on every dog that needs a home, there was something hauntingly disturbing about the picture of him in the cement room. The cold, stark reality of the situation. I felt the need to share this, and hopefully give him a chance at life.

There will be no reprieve for this boy unless a rescue steps up to help him asap. HE WILL DIE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 3 just like the 2 we lost earlier this week at the same animal control. There are no Petfinder posts from this animal control. The souls are all lost every week unless someone takes a picture.

All the news is sad. We spoke to the volunteer a few minutes ago. All the puppies have passed. :-(:-( Turns out Momma gave birth to 7 puppies (one was still born, two died after momma gave birth to them at the vet's office and then the last 4 passed with the volunteer)

Momma must have been starving before she gave birth because the volunteer describes her as a bag of bones. She also had a horribly long labor. She weighed 20lbs fully pregnant, now she may weigh 10lbs or so. She is still at the volunteer's house. Momma is being fed a high calorie, sensitive tummy diet. She is receiving a great deal of love and affection.

The volunteer and her son had a funeral for the puppies who passed and marked their grave with a beautiful stone from a river bed.

The volunteer needed to check her emails and such to see what, if anything, is lined up for Momma, so she does not have to go back to Dekalb.

We are truly sorry for such a horribly sad update

Kat 5's Newest Program: Litters to Go (SM)

Even though it is not quite ready to be launched, Kat 5 Animal Rescue thought that Spay Day was the perfect time to announce one of our newest programs: Litters to Go (SM)

Litters to Go(SM) is a program that is both PROACTIVE and REACTIVE to the pet overpopulation situation.

1. A family brings puppies to the shelter to dump them off :-(

2. Shelter director or Litter to Go (LTG)(SM) liaison explains what can happen to puppies at a shelter (parvo, URI, KC, and death)

3. The family is then told about Litters to Go(SM) and, if the family is willing, they sign a contract with Kat 5 Animal Rescue to surrender the puppies to Kat 5 after 14 days

4. The puppies are immediately vaccinated and dewormed and return home with their family for the 14 day quarantine period

5. After 14 days the puppies are turned over to Kat 5 Animal Rescue. They are then transported, via licensed, professional transporters, to their pre screened rescues where there are pre approved homes waiting for them.

That is not all!! The momma dog will be SPAYED FREE OF CHARGE to the family through the Litters To Go(SM) Program. To help make an impact on the number of homeless pets every other unaltered pet in the household that has signed up for LTG (SM) will also be SPAYED OR NEUTERED FREE OF CHARGE to the family. And as a bonus :-)Kat 5 will microchip all pets in the household.

We are tying up loose ends and a few details but hope to sign up our first litter very soon. Please stay tuned for updates for Litters To Go (SM) and the other fabulous programs Kat 5 Animal Rescue has in store for 2009 and the future.

NEW UPDATE on the Injustice

The dogs are safe for now, as they have been moved out of town but Tom still has a battle to wage. He sold his crew cab at half the value to raise the funds to get the dogs to safety. He is now going to take all the equity out of his house so he can "turn up the heat with the lawyer and the appeals courts". Tom thinks when all is said and done he will be $100K in debt. The reason for all of this? In Tom's own words:

I really would have rather put the money to better use, but damn it, they are not going to do this to me or anyone else ever again.The strong must defend the ones who are not strong enough to defend themselves....

While in the Navy Tom defended the people of this country from wrong doing now he is just doing it on a smaller scale.

Some of you may know what is going on with my dogs and me.

Perinton town justice Thomas klonick intends on sending me to jail , seizing my dogs and disposing of them as he sees fit.This has been a long running issue.Last April , I was charged with a violation of the animal control ordinance, which states you can only have 4 dogs , UNLESS you have met the requirements for a kennel in the town of Perinton.

Perinton , HAS NO SUCH REQUIREMENTS !!!The dogs are licensed, UTD on shots, healthy and WELL cared for.

This basically boils down to the judge and town code enforcer, John Beck, being pissed because I will not kiss their asses.The town has tried to search my house 3 times , WITHOUT a search warrant.I will not allow that.

I believe the judge intends on putting my dogs to sleep and basically bankrupting me to prove his point as stated in a letter from their attorney.

I have committed no crime, no cruelty, nothing!!

I have contacted channel 13's Sean Carroll about bringing this to light.I'm not sure if they will because Thomas Klonick is a very powerful person around here.His wife is a state supreme court judge and he heads the Judaical ethics review board. These people thing we are servants and they can do whatever they want.

I have tried to file an appeal, but Judge Klonick will not allow it, his ruling , he says is final. He has basically wiped his ass with our constitutional rights.

I need some help, contact channel 13 and tell them you want this story to be heard. After the dogs are gone , any appeal or over ruling will mean nothing.

Klonick will not be able to break the law , as he has done , with the whole world watching, that is why I need the news stations there.

This is not a joke, It is dead serious. He wants to kill my innocent , healthy dogs, to make a point that he is ALL POWERFUL....

Perinton town justice Thomas klonick intends on sending me to jail , seizing my dogs and disposing of them as he sees fit.This has been a long running issue.Last April , I was charged with a violation of the animal control ordinance, which states you can only have 4 dogs , UNLESS you have met the requirements for a kennel in the town of Perinton.

Perinton , HAS NO SUCH REQUIREMENTS !!!The dogs are licensed, UTD on shots, healthy and WELL cared for.

This basically boils down to the judge and town code enforcer, John Beck, being pissed because I will not kiss their asses.The town has tried to search my house 3 times , WITHOUT a search warrant.I will not allow that.

I believe the judge intends on putting my dogs to sleep and basically bankrupting me to prove his point as stated in a letter from their attorney.

I have committed no crime, no cruelty, nothing!!

I have contacted channel 13's Sean Carroll about bringing this to light.I'm not sure if they will because Thomas Klonick is a very powerful person around here.His wife is a state supreme court judge and he heads the Judaical ethics review board. These people thing we are servants and they can do whatever they want.

I have tried to file an appeal, but Judge Klonick will not allow it, his ruling , he says is final. He has basically wiped his ass with our constitutional rights.

I need some help, contact channel 13 and tell them you want this story to be heard. After the dogs are gone , any appeal or over ruling will mean nothing.

Klonick will not be able to break the law , as he has done , with the whole world watching, that is why I need the news stations there.

This is not a joke, It is dead serious.

He wants to kill my innocent , healthy dogs, to make a point that he is ALL POWERFUL....

Davie’s Law has been introduced in the North Carolina House. This bill, named for Davie, a puppy who survived a gassing in a North Carolina public shelter, would ban gas chambers and other cruel methods of killing like heart stick or shooting, and mandate that if animals are euthanized, it must be by lethal injection or oral ingestion of sodium pentobarbital.

New Year = New excitement at KAT 5

It has been a long time since we last wrote a blog, and for that we are sorry. We promise we will be better about it in the coming year.

There is excitement and new energy at KAT 5 as we are pleased to announce there will be new programs, (proactive and reactive) to help the pets, added to our rescue. Many details are being finalized but we were so excited we could not wait to let you all know good things are happening behind the scenes. When all the details are finished we will be posting and blogging about the fantastic new programs we will be incorporating into our already successful rescue.
